College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Every account is verified with a @yale.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Bulldogs — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Yale sorts every undergraduate into one of fourteen residential colleges before they even arrive: Benjamin Franklin College, Berkeley College, Branford College, Davenport College, Ezra Stiles College, Grace Hopper College, Jonathan Edwards College, Morse College, Pauli Murray College, Pierson College, Saybrook College, Silliman College, Timothy Dwight College, and Trumbull College. Most first-years spend that first year on Old Campus instead, in Bingham Hall, Durfee Hall, Farnam Hall, Lanman-Wright Hall, Lawrance Hall, Vanderbilt Hall, or Welch Hall, before moving into their college for good. Residence is required for the first four terms, so first-years and sophomores all live within a few blocks of one another and everything you need is already on campus. Yale students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms arrive furnished: a bed and mattress, a bureau or wardrobe, a desk, and a chair, with couches and chairs in the suite common room. Beds are extra long, 80" by 36", and Yale supplies the mattress but not the pillow, so bedding is a reliable first-week purchase. Lofts and partitions of any sort are banned, though beds can be bunked or debunked when the room allows, and there is 12 to 36 inches of clearance underneath for storage. Window air conditioners are not permitted without documentation from Student Accessibility Services. The appliance rule is strict: one microwave (700 watts maximum) or one refrigerator (3.1 cubic feet maximum) or one combination unit per room, plus a tea kettle or Keurig-type brewer. Hot plates, toasters, toaster ovens, halogen lamps, and space heaters are all prohibited. Bingham, Durfee, Lanman-Wright, and Vanderbilt have overhead lighting; Farnam, Lawrance, and Welch do not, which is why desk and floor lamps move fast every August.

Hand things off somewhere public and busy. The Yale Schwarzman Center, Sterling Memorial Library, Bass Library, Cross Campus, Payne Whitney Gymnasium, and Old Campus are all easy to find and full of people between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

First-year move-in is Sunday, August 23, 2026, and upper-level students return Sunday, August 30 — those two weekends are when listings turn over fastest.
