Buying & selling at Wichita State University

Campus details for Wichita State students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. Every account is verified with a @shockers.wichita.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Shockers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Wichita State keeps its on-campus housing tight and walkable. First-year students live in Shocker Hall, the traditional residence hall in the heart of campus with Shocker Dining and the GroundHouse attached, or in The Suites, the suite-style building on Innovation Campus with private bedrooms. Returning students move over to The Flats, the upperclass apartment complex next to the YMCA wellness center. WSU requires new students to live in one of those three during their first two semesters, with exemptions for students who are 21 or older, transfer in with 24-plus credits, are married or have dependents, or live with approved relatives in Sedgwick County. That means a steady churn of people moving in and out every August and May, and everything you need is already on campus. Wichita State students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Know the rules before you buy. Shocker Hall rooms come furnished with a twin XL bed (38 inches by 80 inches), a desk, a desk chair, and a dresser, so shop for twin XL sheets and skip anything sized for a standard twin. Personal refrigerators have to be 4.9 cubic feet or under, anything over five cubic feet is banned outright, and microwaves top out at 700 watts. The Suites and The Flats already provide a fridge, and The Flats provide a microwave too, so check your building before you pay for one. Toasters, toaster ovens, George Foreman grills, coffee makers without an automatic shut-off, and LED light strips are all prohibited, and housing does not allow Command strips, duct tape, scotch tape, box tape, wallpaper, or borders on the walls.

Meet up somewhere busy and well lit. The Rhatigan Student Center is the obvious choice, with the Shocker Store, the info desk, and Shocker Sports Grill & Lanes all inside, and Ablah Library, Shocker Dining, and the Heskett Center work just as well. Everything is a short walk, so no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

Fall 2026 move-in starts Saturday, August 8, with full-service move-in that weekend and classes beginning Monday, August 17. The days on either side of that weekend are the busiest stretch on the marketplace.
