College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Every account is verified with a @wmich.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Broncos — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

WMU's residential map looks different this year. Valley Oaks opens in fall 2026 as a first-year hall for roughly a thousand students, joining Western Heights — the Hall-Archer-Pickard East and West houses — as the other home base for new Broncos. Returning and first-year students share the suite-style Valley 1 halls, Ackley/Shilling Hall and Britton/Hadley Hall, while Henry Hall sits a minute from the Student Center and stays open to the general student population. Upper-level students with enough credits move out to the university apartments at Arcadia Flats, Western View, Stadium Drive Apartments and Spindler Hall. With a brand-new building filling up and Valley 2 emptying out at the end of spring 2026, there is an unusual amount of furniture changing hands right now. WMU students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Know what's already in the room before you spend. Every resident gets a twin extra-long bed and mattress, a desk and chair, a dresser or organizer drawer depending on the hall, closet space and window treatments, so buy twin XL sheets and leave the mattress from home behind — those are specifically not allowed. Refrigerators and microwaves are fine as long as they draw less than 1.5 amps, and combo fridge-microwave units can be rented rather than bought. Personal or homemade lofts are banned, and so are portable air conditioners, space heaters, air fryers, toasters and anything with an exposed heating element. Valley Oaks has in-room PTAC air conditioning and Western Heights is air-conditioned throughout; the older Valley 1 halls and Henry don't advertise it, which makes a good box fan a genuinely useful August buy.

Meet somewhere busy and central. The WMU Student Center, the lobby of Waldo Library, the front desk at the Student Recreation Center, and the Valley Dining Center during meal rush are all easy walk-ups for both sides. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
