College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Every account is verified with a @catamount.wcu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Catamounts, not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
WCU runs sixteen residence halls on the Cullowhee campus, and first-year students land in Albright-Benton Residence Hall, Black Rock Hall, Shining Rock Hall, or Water Rock Hall, with overflow spread into other buildings. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors move on to Buchanan Residence Hall, Balsam Hall, Blue Ridge Hall, Harrill Residence Hall, Judaculla Residence Hall, Madison Residence Hall, Noble Residence Hall, Norton Road Hall, Robertson Residence Hall, and Levern Hamlin Allen Hall, while The Village Residence Hall offers house and condo style suites open to every class year. Because WCU Policy 96 requires first-year students to live on campus for two academic years (and new transfers for one), there's a steady population of students furnishing a room and then unloading it a year later. Everything you need is already on campus. Western Carolina students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.
Rooms come furnished with two loftable or bunkable beds, XL twin mattresses, two desks and desk chairs, wardrobes or closets with drawers, desk and overhead lighting, and window blinds, so what people actually shop for is the rest: extra-long twin sheets, shelving, rugs, and storage. Newer buildings like Water Rock and The Village are air conditioned; older stock such as Albright-Benton is not, and personal AC units are prohibited, which makes fans move fast in August. Fridges are capped at 4.6 cubic feet or 5 amps and microwaves at 800 watts, so check the label before you buy a used one. Air fryers, hot plates, crockpots, coffee makers, indoor grills, space heaters, and candles are all banned.
Meeting up is easy when everyone's within a few minutes' walk. Trade in the open at the A.K. Hinds University Center, outside Hunter Library, at the Campus Recreation Center, on Central Plaza, or near Catamount Clothing & Gifts. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
