Where Hokies buy and sell
About 10,500 students live on campus at Virginia Tech, and the halls cluster into quads that make handoffs easy. Whether you're on the Drillfield side in Campbell, Eggleston, Cochrane, or Slusher, in the Pritchard-Lee-O'Shag quad at Pritchard or O'Shaughnessy, on the east side in Newman, Johnson, Miles, Vawter, Whitehurst, or the Creativity and Innovation District, southwest in Hillcrest, Harper, New Hall West, or Ambler Johnston, in the Corps of Cadets buildings at Pearson East, Pearson West, or Upper Quad Hall North, or out in the Oak Lane Community, everything you need is already within a walk across the Drillfield. Hokies post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Students living off campus around downtown Blacksburg use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.
A note on hall names
Whitehurst Hall is the building many Hokies still know as Barringer — Virginia Tech's own hall listing now uses Whitehurst. If you're searching for the old name, that's the same building.
Meeting up on campus
Handoffs happen at landmarks everybody already knows. Squires Student Center, Newman Library, McComas Hall, and the Drillfield itself are all easy meeting points between classes. Eggleston Quad sits right by Newman and Squires, so that corner of campus is the natural default. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no driving across Blacksburg to meet someone off Craigslist.
Textbooks without the bookstore markup
Course materials for engineering, architecture, business, and the sciences run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Hokie who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.
The weeks that matter most
Move-in in August and move-out in May are when the marketplace is busiest. Graduating seniors and students heading home for the summer are clearing out furniture, fridges, and storage all at once, and incoming students need all of it. If you're selling, post before the rush. If you're buying, that's when the good stuff appears and disappears the same day.
