College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. Every account is verified with a @valpo.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Beacons — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Where Beacons buy and sell
All first-year, sophomore, and junior students are required to live in University housing at Valpo, so three classes are furnishing rooms every year across seven residence halls and two apartment buildings. First-years are in Wehrenberg or Brandt; upperclass students live in Beacon Hall, Guild-Memorial, Alumni, Lankenau, the Kade-Duesenberg German House, the Sorority Housing Complex, or the Promenade Apartments. Beacons post futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, seating, rugs, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.
A new first-year village opens fall 2026
Wehrenberg and Brandt Halls are being renovated and will welcome the Class of 2030 as a first-year village in fall 2026. A full incoming class moving into freshly renovated rooms means an unusually busy August — worth watching the feed early if you're buying.
Check the room before you buy furniture
Valpo's halls aren't uniform, and it matters more here than at most schools. Most of the furniture in Alumni and Lankenau is affixed to the walls, and in Wehrenberg and Guild-Memorial the wardrobes and closets are built in — though beds and desks move. Everywhere else the furniture is movable. Brandt, the Sorority Housing Complex, and Promenade are carpeted; the others aren't, so a rug is worth buying if you're elsewhere. Most beds are twin XL (80 inch). And air conditioning covers Beacon, Guild/Memorial, Wehrenberg, Kade-Duesenberg, the Sorority Complex, and Promenade — Alumni has only limited AC spaces for accommodations, so a fan matters there.
Meeting up on campus
Handoffs happen at landmarks everybody already knows. The Harre Union is the center of campus — it's where all student mail goes, so you're already there — with the Christopher Center Library and the Athletics-Recreation Center close by. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no driving across Valparaiso to meet someone off Craigslist.
One thing to know about storage
Valpo's storage is limited to students living more than 500 miles away, capped at one 30-gallon bin. For everyone else, selling what you can't take home beats paying to store it or hauling it back — which is exactly what makes the May market busy here.

Where should I meet to hand something off?
Somewhere public and central. Harre Union and Christopher Center Library are the easiest — busy, well-lit, and everyone knows where they are.

Stick to busy, well-lit public spots. The Harre Union is the easiest Valpo handoff point — student mail goes there, so you are already heading that way — with the Christopher Center Library and the Athletics-Recreation Center close by. Meet during daylight hours.
