Buying & selling at UT Rio Grande Valley

Campus details for UTRGV students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas. Every account is verified with a @utrgv.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Vaqueros — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

UTRGV requires first-year students who finished high school within the previous 24 months to live on campus, unless they qualify for an exemption (living in Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, or Willacy county is the most common one). That policy funnels a large share of every incoming class into the same handful of buildings. On the Edinburg campus, that means the suite-style Heritage Hall, Troxel Hall, and Unity Hall, plus The Village Apartments for students who want a private bedroom, a full kitchen, and their own washer and dryer. Over in Brownsville, Casa Bella Apartments covers the same range, from studios to shared four-bedroom units. With that much turnover every August and May, everything you need is already on campus. UTRGV students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms in Heritage and Troxel come with XL single beds, built-in desks, task chairs, chests of drawers, and built-in closets. Unity rooms have XL twin beds, desks, and task chairs, and each one already includes a microwave and a mini fridge, which is why Unity residents tend to be selling small appliances rather than shopping for them. Troxel's designed single comes with a full-size bed, and Housing says mattress size depends on the unit you're assigned, so confirm your assignment before you buy sheets. Village and Casa Bella apartments arrive furnished down to the sofa and tables, with a full kitchen and private laundry. Utilities, Wi-Fi, and hall laundry are included. Housing prohibits candles, incense, halogen bulbs, open-coil cooking gear like air fryers, Foreman-style grills, and induction burners, along with hoverboards, personal wireless routers, and plain extension cords — surge protectors only. Pets are out except fish in a tank of 10 gallons or less, and every resident has to carry a meal plan or dining dollars.

Hand-offs are easy when you already share a campus. Meet at the University Center, outside the Edinburg Library, or on the Quad, all busy and well lit during the day. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

Help & FAQ

Common questions from UTRGV students.

Is this only for UTRGV students?

Each campus is its own marketplace. You'll only see listings from people who verified with a UTRGV email address, and they'll only see yours.

Does it cost anything?

No. Listing and browsing are free, and we don't take a cut — you handle payment directly with the other student, however you both prefer.

Where should I meet to hand something off?

Somewhere public and central. University Center and Edinburg Library are the easiest — busy, well-lit, and everyone knows where they are.

What if nobody's selling what I need?

Post it on the Looking For board. Other UTRGV students can see what's in demand, and you'll get notified when someone lists a match.
