Buying & selling at UNC Greensboro

Campus details for UNC Greensboro students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Greensboro, North Carolina. Every account is verified with a @uncg.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Spartans — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Most first-year Spartans land in one of the traditional halls: Cone, Grogan, Guilford, Mary Foust, Moore/Strong, North Spencer, Ragsdale/Mendenhall, Reynolds, South Spencer, and Weil/Winfield. Upperclass students move into suite-style rooms in The Quad or Jefferson Suites, or into apartments at Spartan Village, Spartan Village 2, Spring Garden Apartments, and the efficiencies at Tower Village. Whichever building you end up in, everything you need is already on campus. UNCG students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Know the rules before you shop. Beds in the residence halls take extra-long twin sheets (36" x 80"), so a standard twin or full set will not fit. Lofts are not permitted, and neither are waterbeds, so skip the DIY riser projects and look for compact under-bed storage instead. Microwaves under 800 watts are allowed in all halls, though Housing and Residence Life prefers MicroFridge units, and in a traditional double each roommate may have one. Halogen lamps, lava lamps, hoverboards and electric skateboards are prohibited, and extension cords are out entirely: bring a surge-protected power strip instead. Rooms are air conditioned. Traditional halls also have floor kitchenettes and laundry on site, which is worth checking before you buy a second appliance you do not actually need.

When it is time to hand something off, meet somewhere busy and public. The Elliott University Center is the easiest spot for most trades, and Jackson Library, the Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness, Fountain View Dining Hall, and the plaza at Spartan Village all work well too. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
