College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for University of Massachusetts Lowell in Lowell, Massachusetts. Every account is verified with a @student.uml.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other River Hawks — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
UMass Lowell spreads its housing across its North, South and East campuses, and Residence Life opens traditional, suite and apartment-style rooms to every class year. The traditional halls are Bourgeois Hall, Concordia Hall, Fox Hall and Leitch Hall — doubles, triples and quads, with the largest dining hall on campus sitting inside Fox. Suite living means Donahue Hall and Sheehy Hall, both four-, six- and eight-person suites with private bathrooms, plus Riverview Suites East and University Suites. Students who want a kitchen head for the apartments: Riverview Suites West, the studios, standards, deluxes and townhouses of River Hawk Village, and 1 Merrimack Plaza. Wherever you land, everything you need is already on campus. UMass Lowell students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Check your building before you buy sheets. Residence hall beds are twin extra long, 80 by 38 inches, so a standard twin set won't fit; the one exception is a single bedroom at 1 Merrimack Plaza, where the beds are full size at 54 by 75 inches. Personal furniture is out — no sofas, desks, wardrobes or upholstered pieces, and no bringing your own mattress unless it's approved for medical reasons. Air conditioners are prohibited too, which is why fans move quickly every August. Refrigerators must be Energy Star rated and capped at 4.4 cubic feet per two residents, and a microwave or MicroFridge unit tops out at 1,100 watts. Candles, space heaters, hoverboards and cooking appliances are all on the banned list, so don't pick one up secondhand expecting to keep it.
Hand-offs are easy when the whole campus is a shuttle ride wide. Meet inside the Meehan Student Center, by the River Hawk Shop, outside O'Leary Library, at the Campus Recreation Center after a lift, or near the Tsongas Center before a hockey game: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
