College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the University of Illinois Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Every account is verified with a @uic.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Flames — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

UIC bills ten residence halls for 2026-27, and the mix of room styles keeps the secondhand market moving. First-year students can land in the Academic and Residential Complex, Commons South, Commons West, Courtyard, James Stukel Towers, or Polk Street Residence, all open to any class standing. Returning students move up to Commons North and to the apartment-style buildings — Marie Robinson Hall, Thomas Beckham Hall, and the Single Student Residence — which take sophomore standing and above. Everything you need is already on campus. UIC students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Check what the room already gives you before you spend. Campus Housing furnishes every space with a bed and mattress, a desk and desk chair, drawer space, and closet or wardrobe space; ARC adds a four-drawer dresser and a six-foot closet with a shelf and hanging rod. Beds are extra-long twins, so buy Twin XL sheets and skip the standard twin sets. One rule saves real money here: lofting of beds is not permitted, so pass on the loft kits, cinder blocks and risers that students elsewhere sell off in May. Air conditioning and heat are built into the halls, and personal AC units are banned outright. Refrigerators cannot exceed 4.6 cubic feet or 2.9 amps, and microwaves are capped at 1,000 watts and only allowed where one is built into the apartment or part of a MicroFridge unit, so check your building first. The apartment halls come with a stove, refrigerator and microwave already installed.

Meeting up is simple on a dense city campus. Student Center East is the busiest crossroads UIC has, and 605 Commons Dining Hall inside it is packed through every lunch rush. Richard J. Daley Library and the front desk of the Student Recreation Facility suit quick handoffs, and west-campus students can trade at Student Center West. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

Time your listings around the calendar. Fall 2026 move-in runs Thursday, August 20 through Saturday, August 22, with new residents picking slots on August 20 and 21 and returning residents on August 21 and 22. The days on either side of that window are when the marketplace moves fastest.
