College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for University at Albany, SUNY in Albany, New York. Every account is verified with a @albany.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Great Danes — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

UAlbany organizes its housing into quads and apartment complexes rather than standalone dorms, and where you land changes your shopping list. Indigenous Quad is home to incoming first-year students, and State Quad takes first-years plus the Honors College housing. Colonial Quad and Dutch Quad are mostly freshmen and sophomores, in suites of three to six with a bathroom inside the suite. Alumni Quad, off in Albany's Midtown neighborhood, is traditional corridor-style living with communal bathrooms, and it draws sophomores, juniors, seniors and transfers. The apartments run older: Empire Commons and Liberty Terrace house juniors, seniors and graduate students, Freedom Apartments takes sophomores and juniors, and the Great Dane Apartments on Madison Avenue are new this year. Freshmen and sophomores have to live on campus for their first two years, so beds turn over constantly and everything you need is already on campus. UAlbany students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Quad rooms come with an extra-long twin mattress and bed frame, a desk and chair and a dresser, plus a shower curtain and window coverings, so buy XL twin sheets rather than standard twin. The apartments are different: Empire Commons and Freedom Apartments have full-sized beds, while Liberty Terrace and Great Dane Apartments are twin. Air conditioning is basically an apartment perk — every Empire Commons unit has its own thermostat and Liberty Terrace runs on a geothermal system — which is why fans move fast on the quads in August. Refrigerators are capped at 6 cubic feet and must be 110-volt, 1.75-amp and UL-approved, and the only microwave allowed in the halls is a rented MicroFridge. Cinder blocks and bricks for raising a bed are banned, though store-bought plastic risers are fine, and LED strip lights, air fryers, toaster ovens, space heaters and extension cords all stay home.

Hand-offs are simple here. Meet inside the Campus Center, at the University Library or the Science Library, by The Well at Colonial after a workout, outside Broadview Center on a game night, or out on the Podium: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
