Buying & selling at Toledo

Campus details for Toledo students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for The University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. Every account is verified with a @rockets.utoledo.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Rockets — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

UToledo's housing footprint is compact, which makes the secondhand market here easy to navigate. Parks Tower is the university's only all-first-year residence hall, a high-rise of traditional double rooms with community bathrooms. Returning students move into suite-style living at Ottawa East and West, where four-person suites pair two double bedrooms with a furnished common area and private bathroom, or Presidents Hall, built around six-person suites with three double bedrooms and a furnished living room. Members of the seven fraternities and seven sororities housed on campus live in the townhouses of McComas Village, and there is apartment-style living at the Honors Academic Village. First- and second-year students under 21 whose permanent address sits more than 25 miles from campus must live on campus, so August and May bring real turnover. Everything you need is already here. Toledo students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Know what the room already gives you before you spend. Every UToledo bed is an XL twin measuring 36 by 80 inches, so buy twin XL sheets and skip the standard twin sets. The beds are adjustable lofts — a full loft with a side table in Parks Tower, low lofts in Ottawa, Presidents and McComas — so cinder blocks and homemade rigs are unnecessary. Rooms also come with a desk and chair, a chest of drawers (shared in some halls), a wardrobe or built-in closet, window blinds and ceiling lights. All four university residence halls list air conditioning, and personal air conditioners are prohibited, as are toasters and toaster ovens, air fryers, instant pots, rice cookers, hot plates, space heaters, candles and wax warmers, adhesive LED strip lights, and hoverboards. Residence Life points students to a MicroFridge rental program, but a compliant secondhand fridge from someone moving out in May is usually cheaper.

Meeting up is simple on a walkable campus. Trade in the open at the Lancelot Thompson Student Union, inside Carlson Library, by the front desk of the Student Recreation Center, at The Food Hall at Ottawa East during busy dining hours, or outside the Glass Bowl near Parks Tower. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

Help & FAQ

Common questions from Toledo students.

Who can use College Marketplace at Toledo?

Only students with a verified @rockets.utoledo.edu email address. Every listing you see was posted by another Toledo student, and your listings are only visible to the Toledo community.

Is it free to buy and sell at Toledo?

Yes. Buying, selling, and messaging are completely free. The only optional cost is a featured listing boost, which puts your item at the top of the Toledo feed for $2.99 for 7 days.

How do I pay the other student?

You arrange payment directly with each other — cash, Venmo, Zelle, whatever you both agree on. No money runs through the app, and there are no transaction fees.

Where should I meet to buy or sell on Toledo's campus?

Stick to busy, well-lit public spots — the student union, the main library, the rec center, and the dining halls are all easy meeting points between classes. Agree on a specific building before you head over, and meet during daylight hours.
