Buying & selling at University of Texas at Austin

Campus details for UT Austin students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas. Every account is verified with a @my.utexas.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Longhorns — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

With 52,000 students at UT, somebody is always selling the exact textbook or desk chair you need. The hard part has always been finding them without scrolling a Facebook group full of alumni, bots, and people in Round Rock. Whether you're in Jester Center, Duren, San Jacinto or Kinsolving, in Moore-Hill, Andrews, Blanton, Carothers or Littlefield, or setting up at Brackenridge, Roberts, Prather, Whitis Court or Creekside, everything you need is already on campus. UT students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Meet in the open and it takes five minutes: the Texas Union, the Perry-Castaneda Library, Speedway Plaza, or Gregory Gym between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

Know the specs before you buy. Rooms come furnished with an extra-long twin bed, a desk, a desk chair, a dresser and a combination microwave/refrigerator — the MicroFridge is provided, so there is no reason to buy your own. Skip the prohibited list too: decorative lighting including black lights, halogen lamps, holiday lights and neon; candles and incense; appliances with open heating coils such as air fryers, toasters, hot plates and grills; propane, charcoal and wood grills; and fireworks, explosives and weapons. Pets are limited to fish in tanks of five gallons or less.

Help & FAQ

Common questions from UT Austin students.

Is this only for UT Austin students?

Each campus is its own marketplace. You'll only see listings from people who verified with a UT Austin email address, and they'll only see yours.

Does it cost anything?

No. Listing and browsing are free, and we don't take a cut — you handle payment directly with the other student, however you both prefer.

Where should I meet to hand something off?

Somewhere public and central. Texas Union and Perry-Castaneda Library are the easiest — busy, well-lit, and everyone knows where they are.

What if nobody's selling what I need?

Post it on the Looking For board. Other UT Austin students can see what's in demand, and you'll get notified when someone lists a match.
