Where you live at TSU decides most of what ends up on your shopping list. First-year Tigers land in Mary Wilson Hall, home of the First Year Experience living-learning community, with the rest of the traditional halls, Lena B. Watson Hall, Merl R. Eppse Hall and Henry Allen Boyd Hall, taking a mix of freshmen and returning students. Upperclass students move into the suite-style Wilma Rudolph Residence Center and the honors-heavy Harriet Hodgkins Hale Hall, or into the New Housing Facility, which opened in Fall 2022 with community doubles, semi-suites, private singles and a handful of apartments. Once you have 60 credit hours you can apply for the apartment communities, the John and Harold Ford Residential Complex and the New Residence Center (NRC) Apartments, both four-bedroom, two-bath units with a full kitchen. Beds go fast here, and Fall 2026 housing hit capacity well before move-in, so the scramble for a room turns straight into a scramble for furnishings. Everything you need is already on campus. TSU students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Check the rules before you spend. Every hall is air conditioned and every bed is twin extra-long, so standard twin sheets will not fit. Rooms come furnished with beds, desks, chest-of-drawers, and wardrobes or built-in closets, and Wilson rooms add an in-room sink and vanity, so a full furniture haul is rarely necessary. Refrigerators cannot be larger than 3.2 cubic feet. Traditional microwaves are only allowed in apartment kitchens, never in a residence hall room, though Keurigs are fine. Air fryers, crockpots, Instapots, drip coffee makers and anything with an exposed heating element are out, and space heaters are prohibited campus-wide. Laundry is free in the halls, and every on-campus resident is required to carry a meal plan.

Meeting up is simple when campus is this walkable. Trade in the lobby of the Floyd-Payne Campus Center, outside the Brown-Daniel Library, near the Gentry Center between classes, by Kean Hall, or at Hale Stadium on a game day. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
