Where Vols buy and sell
Whether you're in Hess, Brown, Clement, Magnolia, Dogwood, Geier, or Robinson, in apartment-style living at Laurel, Stokely, or Volunteer Hall, in the new Poplar and Beacon halls, or out at Lakemoor Station, everything you need is already on campus. Tennessee students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Students living off campus along Cumberland and the Strip use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.
A lot of new beds this year
UT is in the middle of the largest housing expansion in its history. Poplar Hall and Beacon Hall opened in fall 2025 with a combined 1,959 beds, and Torchbearer Hall opens for fall 2026 with roughly 1,028 more at Lake Loudoun and Volunteer boulevards. That's an unusual number of students furnishing rooms from scratch in one August, and it's worth watching the feed early whether you're buying or selling.
Meeting up on campus
Handoffs happen at landmarks everybody already knows. The Student Union, Hodges Library, and TRECS are all easy meeting points between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no driving across Knoxville to meet someone off Craigslist.
Textbooks without the bookstore markup
Course materials for engineering, business, and the sciences run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Vol who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.
