Buying & selling at Tarleton State

Campus details for Tarleton students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. Every account is verified with a @go.tarleton.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Texans, not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

New first-time-in-college students are required to live on campus their first academic year unless Residence Life approves an off-campus exemption, so most new Texans start out in a traditional hall: Centennial Hall, Heritage Hall, Hunewell/Hunewell Annex, Legacy Hall, or Legends Hall. Honors Hall, Integrity Hall, and Traditions Hall (North & South) take a mix of first-year and continuing students. After that first year the apartment-style options open up, including Texan Hall Apartments, Texan Village Apartments, Fireside District Apartments, and The Edge on Washington Apartments. With that much shuffling between buildings every August and May, everything you need is already on campus. Tarleton students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms come furnished with a bed, dresser, desk and chair, nightstand, and built-in closet, and the traditional halls supply a microwave and refrigerator unit in the room, which is exactly why personal microwaves and mini fridges are on the prohibited list in the residence halls. Check your building before you buy sheets: Centennial, Heritage, Hunewell, Legacy, and Legends use extra-long twin mattresses, Integrity, Traditions, and the Honors Hall suites and apartments have full-size beds, and Texan Village units come with extra-long loft beds. Lofted and bunked bed systems, homemade or purchased, are not allowed. Neither are space heaters, window air conditioning units, toasters, hot plates, grills, or light-duty extension cords. Nails, screws, tacks, and adhesive stickers are banned too, so removable tape is the only approved way to hang anything, and wall or door decorations can't cover more than 20% of a surface. Apartment residents get more freedom: Texan Hall units include a full kitchen, in-unit washer and dryer, and central air, but no microwave, so that one is worth buying secondhand.

Meeting up is easy when you already cross paths every day. Trade at the Thompson Student Center, outside the Dick Smith Library, or on the Quad, where there's steady foot traffic between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

Help & FAQ

Common questions from Tarleton students.

Is this only for Tarleton students?

Each campus is its own marketplace. You'll only see listings from people who verified with a Tarleton email address, and they'll only see yours.

Does it cost anything?

No. Listing and browsing are free, and we don't take a cut — you handle payment directly with the other student, however you both prefer.

Where should I meet to hand something off?

Somewhere public and central. Thompson Student Center and Dick Smith Library are the easiest — busy, well-lit, and everyone knows where they are.

What if nobody's selling what I need?

Post it on the Looking For board. Other Tarleton students can see what's in demand, and you'll get notified when someone lists a match.
