College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York. Every account is verified with a @stonybrook.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Seawolves — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Stony Brook organizes campus housing into residential communities rather than standalone dorms, and first-year students land in H Community, Mendelsohn Community, or the Eleanor Roosevelt Community, with Honors College and Simons STEM Scholars housed in Yang Hall. Stony Brook students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms come furnished with a bed, dresser, desk, and closet, and Campus Residences' own packing checklist calls for Twin XL sheets and a Twin XL mattress pad, so that's the size to look for when someone is selling bedding. Air conditioning is the big variable: many halls don't have it, Roosevelt bedrooms are unconditioned except on the fourth floor, while Yang's living-learning suites and the West Apartments are cooled, so check your room description in the housing portal before you buy or skip a fan. Economy rooms in H and Mendelsohn come with beds permanently lofted or bunked, which changes what furniture actually fits. For refrigerators and microwaves, Campus Residences partners with MicroFridge, and every first-year and transfer resident carries a meal plan for their first two semesters.

Meet up somewhere busy and central. The Student Activities Center and the Stony Brook Union are the obvious handoff points between classes, and the Frank Melville Jr. Memorial Library, the Charles B. Wang Center, the Campus Recreation Center, and the plaza outside the Staller Center for the Arts all work just as well — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
