Buying & selling at Stephen F. Austin

Campus details for SFA students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Every account is verified with a @jacks.sfasu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Lumberjacks — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

On-campus housing is required for first-time, first-year students at SFA, so a full class moves into the halls every August and back out every May. The traditional community-bath halls carry most of that crowd: Griffith Hall, Hall 10, Hall 14, Kerr Hall, and honors housing in Wisely Hall. Suite-style rooms sit in North Hall, South Hall, Steen Hall, and Lumberjack Landing, while apartment and townhome living runs through Lumberjack Village 1, Lumberjack Village 2, Lumberjack Village 3, Lumberjack Village 4, and Lumberjack Lodge. Everything you need is already on campus. SFA students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Check the rules before you buy, because they change from building to building here. Mattress size is not uniform: Steen Hall and Lumberjack Lodge use extra-long twins at 39 by 80 inches, while Griffith Hall and the Lumberjack Village units use standard twins at 39 by 75 inches, so confirm your hall before you take someone else's sheets off their hands. Every room comes furnished with a bed, desk, chair, dresser, and closet. Beds in most halls are bunkable and height-adjustable through a front desk work order, but Steen's loft-style beds cannot be bunked, and bed risers, room-assembled lofts, and stacking beds on cinder blocks are all prohibited. An extra mini fridge has to stay at or under 5.0 cubic feet and 1.8 amps, personal microwaves are not allowed unless the university supplied one, and most cooking appliances are permitted only in the Village 3 and Village 4 apartments. Air fryers, Instant Pots, hot plates, toasters, electric kettles, halogen lamps, lava lamps, and candle or wax warmers are all banned, and extra outlets have to come from a surge protector with a built-in breaker rather than an extension cord.

Meet up somewhere busy and central. The Baker Pattillo Student Center is the easiest handoff on campus, and Steen Library and the Sundial both work well in daylight with people around. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

Help & FAQ

Common questions from SFA students.

Is this only for SFA students?

Each campus is its own marketplace. You'll only see listings from people who verified with a SFA email address, and they'll only see yours.

Does it cost anything?

No. Listing and browsing are free, and we don't take a cut — you handle payment directly with the other student, however you both prefer.

Where should I meet to hand something off?

Somewhere public and central. Baker Pattillo Student Center and Steen Library are the easiest — busy, well-lit, and everyone knows where they are.

What if nobody's selling what I need?

Post it on the Looking For board. Other SFA students can see what's in demand, and you'll get notified when someone lists a match.
