College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Stanford University in Stanford, California. Every account is verified with a @stanford.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Cardinal students — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Stanford Residential & Dining Enterprises splits undergraduate housing three ways. Most of campus lives in the residence hall complexes, and nearly all of them mix class years: Wilbur Hall, Stern Hall, Florence Moore Hall, Gerhard Casper Quad, Governor's Corner, Crothers Hall, and Lagunita Court each hold a blend of frosh, four-class, and upperclass houses, while Branner Hall is all frosh and Toyon Hall and Roble Hall are upperclass. Then there is the apartment and suite side — Governor's Corner Suites, EVGR-A Duan Family Hall, and Mirrielees, the only undergraduate option with full kitchens — plus the roughly three dozen Row Houses. Rather than a two-year live-on rule, Stanford guarantees students who matriculate as frosh twelve quarters of academic-year housing, so most people move between houses several times. Cardinal students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every quarter — usually for a fraction of retail.

Every room arrives fully furnished, and R&DE is firm that the furniture cannot be removed or put into storage, so the market here is for the things that fit around it. Undergraduate beds are twin extra-long (36 by 80 inches), so standard twin sheets will not work. Lofting or bunking is allowed only in designated undergraduate buildings, and any lofted bed the University did not supply is prohibited. Air conditioning is not standard — a unit is permitted only when the Office of Accessible Education approves it as a disability accommodation, which is why fans move quickly in September and June. Microwaves are the one cooking appliance allowed in a student room; full-size refrigerators are not, and anything with an open heating element, including hot plates, toaster ovens, electric heaters, and induction burners, is banned outright. Real cooking belongs in the designated kitchens, and apartment residents supply their own cookware.

For the handoff, stay somewhere busy and public. Tresidder Memorial Union and White Plaza are the natural daytime options, and Green Library, the Main Quad, Hoover Tower, and the Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation all work for a quick swap between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
