College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Every account is verified with a @stthomas.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Tommies — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
First-year Tommies land on north campus in Brady Residence Hall, Dowling Residence Hall, Ireland Residence Hall, or Schoenecker Residence Hall North. After that the options open up: suite and apartment style living in Flynn Residence Hall, Frey Residence Hall, Grace Residence Hall, Morrison Residence Hall, and Murray Residence Hall, or one of the university-owned buildings along Grand Avenue — the 2085 Grand Avenue Apartments, 2151 Grand Avenue Apartments, 2159 Grand Avenue Apartments, 2163 Grand Avenue Apartments, and 2171 & 2175 Grand Avenue Apartments — plus the twelve Mid-Campus Houses on Summit and Grand. The On-Campus Living Requirement keeps both first- and second-year students in university housing, so that is two full move-in cycles before anyone signs an outside lease, and everything you need is already on campus. St. Thomas students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.
Check your building before you buy anything. Rooms come furnished with an extra-long twin bed and mattress, a desk and desk chair, a dresser, and closet or wardrobe space, and Residence Life is blunt about the sizing: "The beds we provide are Twin XL." Most halls hand you a bed that is already lofted, while Morrison bedrooms are listed as no lofts; homemade lofts are banned outright and any lofted setup needs guardrails and stabilizer bars. Air conditioning is the real variable. Schoenecker North, Murray, Frey, the Flynn suites, and Morrison have thermostat-controlled central air, and Brady, Dowling, Ireland, Grace, and the Mid-Campus Houses run on steam heat with no cooling at all — personal AC units are not permitted, which is why fans move fast here in September. Refrigerators must be 4.5 cubic feet or smaller and draw no more than 1.7 amps, though micro-fridges already come with Grace, Frey, Murray, and the Flynn suites. Microwaves over 900 watts trip breakers in standard rooms, and toasters, air fryers, hot plates, grills, extension cords, and space heaters are prohibited.
Meet somewhere central and busy: the Anderson Student Center, the O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library, the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex, the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas, or Summit Marketplace. Each one is a short walk from housing and full of people all day — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
