College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for St. John's University in Queens, New York. Every account is verified with a @my.stjohns.edu email address, the domain St. John's issues students, so you're only ever trading with other members of the Red Storm — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

First-year students land in Donovan Hall, where two bedrooms share a bathroom, or in suite-style Hollis Hall. Sophomores move over to Janetschek Hall and O'Connor Hall, while DaSilva Hall takes residents from every class year. Juniors and seniors have their pick of Carey Hall, the apartment-style Founders Village Townhouses with full kitchens and personal thermostats, the Seton Complex apartments the University operates on Union Turnpike, and Henley Road Residence, open to upperclass students. Whatever building you're in, everything you need is on campus: St. John's students post mini fridges, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

The housing rules here shape what's worth buying secondhand. Every resident gets a twin bed, a desk, and a dresser, and the mattresses measure 80 by 38 inches, so Twin XL sheets are the ones to buy. Each room has its own heating and cooling unit, so no one is hunting for a window air conditioner in August. Suites in Hollis, Janetschek, O'Connor, and Carey include a mini fridge, and Founders Village, Henley Road, and Seton units come with a full kitchen, stove, and refrigerator. Personal refrigerators are capped at 4.0 cubic feet — one television and one fridge per bedroom — and MicroFridge units can be rented through University Logistics. Outside furniture is not allowed — no couches, futons, beanbags, or unauthorized beds — and bed risers are prohibited, so the smart buys are under-bed boxes, plastic drawers, and bathroom organizers. Only appliances with automatic shut-off make the cut: coffee makers, pop-up toasters, hot pots and rice cookers, panini presses, and irons. Space heaters, halogen lamps, hot plates, and pressure cookers stay home. Meal plans are tied to the building, too, from Carte Blanche for first-years to no required plan at Seton.

When it's time to hand something off, meet somewhere busy and central. The D'Angelo Center, Montgoris Dining Hall, the Marillac Food Court, and the Donovan Fitness Center are all short walks from the residence village: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
