Buying & selling at Southeast Missouri State
Campus details for Southeast Missouri State students.
College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Every account is verified with a @semo.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Redhawks — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Most of campus lives in a short list of buildings, which makes handoffs easy. The Towers Complex holds four of them: community-style Towers East and Towers South, plus suite-style Towers North and Towers West, with Towers Landing and Rowdy's on the ground floor. LaFerla Hall sits near the Student Recreation Center and houses a stack of special interest communities, Merick Hall looks out over Houck Field, and Vandiver Hall is on south campus within walking distance of the University Center and Kent Library. Students in the Visual and Performing Arts community live at Dobbins Center over on the River Campus. SEMO requires full-time students to live on campus for two academic years unless they qualify for an exemption, so everything you need is already on campus. SEMO students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Know what's already in the room before you buy anything. Rooms come with a bed, desk, chair, and dresser or wardrobe, and mattresses are extra-long twin at 80" by 38", so buy XL twin sheets and skip anything cut for a standard twin. University beds bunk and loft on their own, so no personal lofts may be built in any hall — raised to the top rung, LaFerla and Merick beds leave roughly 33 inches of clearance, which is why under-bed bins move fast. Microwaves top out at 800 watts and have to plug straight into a wall outlet, and refrigerators are limited to one shared mini fridge or two 1.6 cubic foot units, one per roommate. Space heaters, air fryers, Insta-Pots, toasters and anything else with an open heating element, halogen or exposed-bulb lamps, candles, and personal Wi-Fi routers are all prohibited, so check a listing against the policy before you hand over cash.
Meet up somewhere public and busy. The University Center is the obvious spot, since the bookstore and dining are both inside it, and Kent Library, the Student Recreation Center, Towers Landing, and the steps of Academic Hall all work in daylight with people around. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
