College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota. Every account is verified with a @coyotes.usd.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Coyotes — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

USD housing is compact enough that a listing posted at breakfast can be picked up before your afternoon class. Most first-year students land in the North Complex — Beede Hall, Mickelson Hall, Richardson Hall, and Olson Hall — which also houses the Honors, Casa Latina, Wiyuskinyan Unpi Tipi, and Sustainability living learning communities, or in the double rooms at Burgess Hall and Norton Hall. Suite and apartment living happens at Coyote Village, open to first-year and upper-class students alike, and at McFadden Hall, whose four-bedroom apartments are reserved for upper-class students. First- and second-year students are required to live on campus under South Dakota Board of Regents policy, so everything you need is already within a few blocks. USD students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Know the rules before you buy. Beds across the residence halls take XL-Twin sheets, so skip anything cut for a standard twin. Lofting is where the halls really differ: Beede, Mickelson, Burgess, and Norton rent university lofts for $58.00 per semester and outside lofts are prohibited, Richardson and Olson rooms come with self-lofting beds, and beds in Coyote Village and McFadden cannot be lofted at all. In the North Complex and Burgess/Norton you're capped at one refrigerator per resident at 5.0 cubic feet and 1.5 amps, plus one microwave per room at 700 watts or less. Coyote Village and McFadden already come with a full-size refrigerator, microwave, and couch — a 42-inch flat screen in Coyote Village, a stove and dishwasher in McFadden — and none of it can be removed, so mini fridges are prohibited there. Extension cords, halogen lamps, toasters and other open-element appliances, and waterbeds are all banned.

Meet up somewhere busy and central. The Muenster University Center is the natural handoff spot, and I.D. Weeks Library, the Wellness Center & Natatorium, Coyote Dining Hall, and the DakotaDome all work in daylight with people around. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
