Carolina has 28 residence halls across several neighborhoods. Whether you're in Bates House, Bates West, or South Tower, in the Campus Village buildings, in Capstone, Columbia Hall, Patterson, Maxcy, Thornwell, or Women's Quad, in Preston Residential College or the Honors Residence, on the Horseshoe at DeSaussure, Rutledge, Harper-Elliott, or Pinckney-Legare, or over at 650 Lincoln, Park Place, or 820 Henderson, everything you need is already on campus. Carolina students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Students living off campus around Five Points and the Vista use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.
Buildings in transition
Carolina is in the middle of a housing build-out. Woodrow is under renovation and returns in fall 2027, and both The Commons at Carolina and the Honors Addition open in fall 2028 — so none of the three are part of 2026–27 housing. Worth knowing if you're searching for a hall and can't find it in the feed.
Meeting up on campus
Handoffs happen at landmarks everybody already knows. The Russell House University Union, Thomas Cooper Library, and the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center are all easy meeting points between classes, and the Horseshoe works well if you're both central. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no driving across Columbia to meet someone off Craigslist.
Textbooks without the bookstore markup
Course materials for engineering, business, nursing, and the sciences run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Gamecock who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.
The weeks that matter most
Move-in in August and move-out in May are when the marketplace is busiest. Graduating seniors and students heading home for the summer are clearing out furniture, fridges, and storage all at once, and incoming students need all of it. If you're selling, post before the rush. If you're buying, that's when the good stuff appears and disappears the same day.
