College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California. Every account is verified with a @scu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Broncos — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

SCU sorts undergraduate housing into eight Residential Learning Communities, and each one lives inside a named building. First- and second-years land in Campisi Hall or Sanfilippo Hall (Magis), Casa Italiana (da Vinci), Dunne Hall (Modern Perspectives), Finn Hall (Cura), Graham Residence Hall (Alpha), McLaughlin-Walsh Residence Hall or Nobili Residence Hall (Unity), Sobrato Residence Hall (Loyola), and Swig Residence Hall (CyPhi). Juniors and seniors move on to the apartment-style University Villas or one of the university-owned Neighborhood Units along the edge of campus. Every full-time undergraduate has to live on campus through the first and second year, so that is two guaranteed move-in cycles before anyone signs an outside lease — and everything you need is already on campus. SCU students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes and gently used textbooks every quarter, usually for a fraction of retail.

Check the rules before you buy anything. Rooms arrive furnished with a bed and mattress, a desk and chair and drawer space, and almost every hall mattress is an extra-long twin at 38 by 80 inches. The exception is University Villas, which has full-size beds, so confirm your assignment before ordering sheets. Air conditioning goes hall by hall: Campisi, Dunne, Finn, Graham, Nobili, Sobrato and the Modern Casa side of Casa Italiana are air-conditioned, while Sanfilippo, Swig and Vintage Casa are not — and personal window or standalone AC units are prohibited everywhere. Mini fridges have to be Energy Star certified and 4.5 cubic feet or smaller; small microwaves are allowed. Homemade lofts, stilts and cinder blocks are banned outright, some university beds can be bunked with approved hardware, and in the Villas only Housing staff may bunk or unbunk them. Air fryers, rice cookers, kettles and toasters are permitted only in kitchens in Casa Italiana, Sobrato, University Villas and the Neighborhood Units.

Meet up somewhere central and busy: the Benson Memorial Center, the Harrington Learning Commons, the Pat Malley Fitness and Recreation Center, Mission Santa Clara de Asís, the Mission Gardens or Abby Sobrato Mall. Every one of them is a short walk from housing and busy all day: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
