College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for San José State University in San José, California. Every account is verified with a @sjsu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Spartans, not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
SJSU housing sits right in downtown San José and splits fairly neatly by class year. First-year Spartans usually land in Washburn Hall, the three-story building SJSU still calls the Bricks, in Joe West Hall, or in Campus Village Building 2, the ten-story tower where meal plans are required. Campus Village Building C, the Suites, and Spartan Village on the Paseo, which opened in August 2024 with nearly 700 beds, take students at every class level. Returning students move into Campus Village Building B, the Apartments, while Campus Village Building A is reserved for juniors, seniors and graduate students, and International House rounds out the list. Nothing requires you to stay on campus past year one, which is exactly why so much furniture changes hands every spring. Whatever building you land in, everything you need is already here. SJSU students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.
Check the rules before you spend. Every bed on campus is an extra-long twin, so buy Twin XL sheets and nothing else, and expect your bed to arrive with no pillows, blankets or linens at all. Rooms come furnished with a bed, desk, chair, dresser, bookshelf and closet. Beds in most buildings can be lofted or bunked, but only with University Housing hardware requested through a facilities work order, and cinder blocks or risers count as an unauthorized loft. Fridges are capped at 4.4 cubic feet in private bedrooms and microwaves at 900 watts, sealed-component models only. Space heaters, hot plates, portable stoves and toaster ovens are all prohibited. Air conditioning is the one to check before you buy a fan: Washburn Hall and the Campus Village buildings have it, Joe West Hall does not.
When it's time to hand something over, stay central and public. Meet at the Diaz Compean Student Union, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center, the lawn outside Tower Hall, the Tommie Smith and John Carlos statue or the plaza by the Event Center at SJSU. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
