College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the University of San Diego in San Diego, California. Every account is verified with a @sandiego.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Toreros — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
USD has required undergraduates to live on campus for both their first and second year since Fall 2014, which means most of the people you'll be trading with are a short walk away. First-years land in Camino Hall and Founders Hall, Maher Hall, or the suite-style Valley A and Valley B buildings (renamed from Missions A and B). Second-years move into San Buenaventura, the Second Year Experience area, or into apartment-style housing at Alcalá Vistas, Manchester Village, and San Antonio de Padua, and juniors and seniors who stay on campus fill those same communities plus Pacific Ridge. With that much of campus living within a few hundred yards of each other, everything you need is already here. USD students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.
A few housing rules shape what's worth buying secondhand. First-year halls are furnished with Twin-XL beds, so bring Twin-XL sheets and skip the standard twin set. Lofting, dismantling, or moving beds away from the wall is not permitted, though some beds can be bunked with approval from Residential Life, and there is already storage built in underneath (Maher rooms give you roughly three feet of clearance under the mattress). Air conditioning units are not allowed in the residence halls without a documented medical accommodation, so fans move fast in September. Residential Life partners with a MicroFridge rental program for incoming freshmen, but plenty of students buy and resell their own fridge and microwave instead.
Meeting up is easy when it's all on one mesa. Trade at the Hahn University Center, outside Copley Library, on the terrace at the Student Life Pavilion, by Tu Mercado, or near the Jenny Craig Pavilion — busy, well-lit places where you can hand something over between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
