College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Every account is verified with a @samford.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Bulldogs — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Every resident freshman lives on Central Campus now, in Audrey Lattimore Gaston Hall, Marvin L. Mann Hall, Lena Vail Davis Hall, Mamie Mell Smith Hall, or John D. Pittman Hall — Gaston and Mann are the newest of the five, opened for fall 2025. After the first year, Bulldogs spread out: the suite-style Beeson Woods buildings and semitraditional Evergreen Hall down in the woods, Theta Alpha Hall, Shelburne Lane Hall, and Mountain View over on West Campus, and Barbara Drummond Thorne Hall, Building 100, Building 300, and the Student Apartments in West Village. Samford expects unmarried undergraduates 20 and under to live on campus unless they're at home with a parent or guardian, so nearly everyone you'll trade with is a short walk away. Bulldogs post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
A room comes with a twin bed, a chest of drawers, a desk or writing table, a desk chair, and closet space, though the furniture style shifts from building to building; West Village is the exception, with full-size beds. Samford's official what-to-bring list asks for Twin XL sheets and a Twin XL mattress pad or topper, caps a personal refrigerator at 4.2 cubic feet and a microwave at 700 watts, and allows single-serve coffee makers as long as there's no exposed heating element. You can bunk and unbunk your own beds anywhere except West Village, and most students who want a loft rent one from the Collegiate Bed Loft Company — university furniture can't leave the room and nails can't go into it. Risers, loft kits, and compact fridges turn over fast here. Leave the toaster ovens, hot plates, halogen lamps, charcoal grills, two-prong extension cords, and hoverboards at home.
Once you've agreed on a price, meet somewhere with people around. The Beeson University Center is the obvious pick, and The Caf works for a fast handoff between classes. Samford University Library, the Seibert Hall Recreation, Wellness and Athletics Complex, Campus Walk Quad, and Crider Commons are all busy, well lit, and easy for a first-year to find. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no off-campus meetups.
