Buying & selling at Saint Mary's College of California

Campus details for Saint Mary's College of California students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga, California. Every account is verified with a @stmarys-ca.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Gaels — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Saint Mary's is a compact, heavily residential campus, and the housing list runs long for its size. First-years land in the traditional halls — Augustine Hall, De La Salle Hall, Assumption Hall, Justin Hall, Mitty Hall and Aquinas Hall — while sophomores and up move down into the canyon suites at Ageno A, Ageno B, Ageno C, Claeys Hall North, Claeys Hall South, Becket Hall and More Hall. Upperclass students chase the townhouses: Syufy Hall, Sabatte Hall, Thille Hall, Freitas Hall, Guerrieri Hall East and Guerrieri Hall West on the lower row, plus Edward S. Ageno Hall East and Edward S. Ageno Hall West above them. First-year students are required to live on campus, and beginning with the Class of 2030 sophomores are too, so the resident population turns over in one big wave every spring. Everything you need is already on campus. SMC students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms come furnished with an XL twin bed, a desk and desk chair, a dresser, an armoire or closet, and — a Saint Mary's quirk — an in-room sink. Buy extra-long twin sheets, not standard twin. Beds are raised by default to leave storage space underneath and can be lofted high enough to slide a desk beneath them, which is why bins and rolling drawer carts move quickly here. Air conditioning is worth checking before you buy a fan: the first-year halls have heat only, with Mitty the exception (split AC/heating units in each room), the canyon suite halls are heated with built-in fans in some of the renovated buildings, and the townhouses have full A/C and heating. Mini fridges and microwaves are permitted, and the college rents combo units if you'd rather not own one. Laundry is liquid detergent only — no pods.

Meet up somewhere busy and public: the Cassin Student Union, Oliver Hall around mealtime, Chapel Plaza, Ferroggiaro Quad, the Soda Activity Center, or outside the Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center. On a campus this walkable everything is a few minutes from everything else: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
