Where Billikens buy and sell
More than 90% of SLU first-year students live on campus. Whether you're in the Griesedieck Complex at Griesedieck, Clemens, or Walsh, in Grand Hall, Spring Hall, Reinert, or Fusz, in Marguerite or DeMattias, or in apartments at Marchetti Towers East and West, Grand Forest, or Village, everything you need is already on the mall. Billikens post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Students living off campus around the Grand and Midtown areas use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.
Check the bed length before you buy sheets
This one catches people out at SLU. Reinert Hall beds measure 38" wide by 86" long — wider and six inches longer than a standard extra-long twin, which is 36" by 80". Regular XL twin sheets won't fit properly. SLU publishes exact furniture dimensions for each hall on its housing pages, so check yours before buying bedding secondhand, and mention your building when you list bedding for sale.
Meeting up on campus
Handoffs happen at landmarks everybody already knows. The Busch Student Center, Pius XII Memorial Library, the Simon Recreation Center, and the Center for Global Citizenship cluster around the middle of campus, so that's the natural default from almost any hall — Griesedieck sits next door to Simon Rec and across the mall from Pius. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no driving across St. Louis to meet someone off Craigslist.
Textbooks without the bookstore markup
Course materials for nursing, the health sciences, business, and pre-med tracks run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Billiken who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.
