College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. Every account is verified with a @francis.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Red Flash — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
SFU keeps most of its undergraduates on the mountain. Full-time dependent students have to live in university housing unless they commute from a parent's home within 50 miles, and ten residence halls fill up every August. First-year students are placed in Giles Hall and Saint Francis Hall on the men's side and Saint Agnes Hall and Saint Clare Hall on the women's side, all four of them mostly doubles. Amici Hall, Saint Elizabeth Hall, Saint Joan of Arc Hall and Saint Louis Hall are the larger traditional buildings, each with lounges, a kitchen and laundry. Upperclass students aim for Ave Maria Hall, which is built around suites with private bathrooms, and for Christian Hall, the junior and senior building where every room has a private bath and air conditioning and which is billed at its own higher rate. Because it all sits on one campus, everything you need is already a short walk away. Saint Francis students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.
Measure before you buy bedding: residence hall mattresses are 79" x 36" x 7", so extra-long twin sheets are the right call and a standard twin set will not fit. Refrigerators must be 3 cubic feet or smaller and cannot be self-defrosting, and microwaves are capped at 1,000 watts, which is why a secondhand fridge that already clears the rule is worth grabbing. Beds can be raised only with an approved lofting kit ordered through my.francis.edu; bed risers, cinder blocks and homemade lofts are all banned, so don't buy them off anyone. Window air conditioners are prohibited, along with halogen lamps, candles, incense, and open-coil toasters and space heaters.
Handoffs are easy here. Meet a buyer inside the JFK Student Center, over a meal at Torvian Dining Hall, at a table in the Saint Francis University Library, in line at Frankie's Campus Club, or outside the Stokes Athletics Center before a game. All of them are public, busy and minutes from every hall: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
