Where Scarlet Knights buy and sell

Rutgers runs one of the largest housing operations in the country — roughly 140 buildings and more than 50 housing options across four campuses. Whether you're on College Ave in Campbell, Hardenbergh, Clothier, Frelinghuysen, Leupp, Mettler, Stonier, or Brett, on Busch in B.E.S.T. Hall, the Busch Suites at Crosby, Judson, McCormick, Morrow, Thomas, or Winkler, on Livingston in the Quads, the Towers, or Livingston Apartments, or over on Cook/Douglass in Bunting-Cobb, Jameson, Katzenbach, Nicholas, Perry, or Helyar House, everything you need is already on a bus route. Rutgers students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Students living off campus around New Brunswick and Piscataway use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.

Meeting up across four campuses

Rutgers is spread across four campuses connected by the bus system, so pick a landmark on whichever one you share. Each campus has its own student center — College Avenue, Busch, Livingston, and Douglass — and the Alexander Library and Werblin Recreation Center work too. If you're on different campuses, meet at the student center on whichever end is easier, not halfway. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off Craigslist.

Textbooks without the bookstore markup

Course materials for engineering, pharmacy, business, and the sciences run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Rutgers student who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.

The weeks that matter most

Move-in in late August and move-out in May are when the marketplace is busiest. Rutgers also closes a large share of its halls over winter and spring recess while others stay open, so there's a real mid-year shuffle on top of the usual cycle. If you're selling, post before the rush. If you're buying, that's when the good stuff appears and disappears the same day.
