College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. Every account is verified with a @u.rochester.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Yellowjackets — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
First- and second-year students are required to live on campus, which keeps the whole market within walking distance. First-years land on the First-Year Hill in Susan B. Anthony Halls or Genesee Hall, or on the First-Year Quad in Gilbert Hall, Tiernan Hall, Hoeing Hall, and — during larger class years — Lovejoy Hall. Upperclass students spread out into Burton Hall and Crosby Hall, Jackson Court's O'Brien Hall, Anderson Tower, and Wilder Tower, and the Hill Court houses: Chambers House, Fairchild House, Gale House, Kendrick House, Munro House, and Slater House. Southside adds deKiewiet Tower and the two-person Maisonettes, while juniors and seniors chase apartment life in Riverview Apartments and Brooks Crossing Apartments. Special interest housing at Douglass Leadership House and Drama House, plus Eastman Commons downtown, rounds out the map. Everything you need is already on campus. Rochester students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Rooms come furnished with a bed and mattress, a desk and chair, a dresser, closet space, and a wastebasket, and some buildings add a hutch or bookshelf. Mattresses are twin extra-long, so pack sheets accordingly; Residential Life keeps a limited supply of 36" x 90" beds for students over 6'4". Beds in shared rooms are bunkable and loftable in a variety of configurations. Portable air conditioners and space heaters are not permitted, refrigerators max out at 4.5 cubic feet and must plug directly into a wall outlet rather than a surge protector, and grills, panini presses, toasters, toaster ovens, electric skillets, crock pots, and hot plates are all prohibited. That is exactly why fans, bed risers, and compact fridges move so quickly here.
Meet up somewhere busy and central: Wilson Commons, Rush Rhees Library, the Goergen Athletic Center, Douglass Dining Center, or out on the Eastman Quadrangle when the weather cooperates. Each one is a short walk from the residence halls, so a handoff takes five minutes between classes — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
