College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Rice University in Houston, Texas. Every account is verified with a @rice.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Owls — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Rice's residential college system means most of your life happens inside a half-mile loop — so a handoff is usually just "I'll be at Brochstein in ten." Whether you're at Baker, Will Rice, Hanszen, Wiess, Jones or Brown, at Lovett, Sid Richardson or Martel, or at McMurtry or Duncan, everything you need is already on campus. Rice students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Meet in the open and it takes five minutes: the Rice Memorial Center, the lobby of Fondren Library, the Central Quad, or Brochstein Pavilion between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no driving across Houston to meet a stranger.
Know the specs before you buy. Every bed is an 80-inch extra-long twin, longer than a standard twin, so buy sheets accordingly. A refrigerator is fine as long as combined refrigerator and freezer space stays under 3.2 cubic feet, and a microwave only qualifies if it is part of a university-approved micro-fridge unit of 1.5 cubic feet or less — one refrigerator and one microwave per student. Candles with flames, incense, traditional-style coffee makers, toaster ovens, space heaters and window cooling units are not allowed, though pod-style coffee makers are. No student is required to live on campus at Rice, which puts off-campus moves into the listings too.

Is this only for Rice students?
Each campus is its own marketplace. You'll only see listings from people who verified with a Rice email address, and they'll only see yours.
Does it cost anything?
No. Listing and browsing are free, and we don't take a cut — you handle payment directly with the other student, however you both prefer.
Where should I meet to hand something off?
Somewhere public and central. Rice Memorial Center and Fondren Library are the easiest — busy, well-lit, and everyone knows where they are.
What if nobody's selling what I need?
Post it on the Looking For board. Other Rice students can see what's in demand, and you'll get notified when someone lists a match.
