College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, Rhode Island. Every account is verified with a @uri.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Rams — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
First-year Rhody students land in halls like Adams Hall, Barlow Hall, Bressler Hall, Butterfield Hall, Fayerweather Hall, Gorham Hall, Heathman Hall, Hillside Hall and Weldin Hall, most of them tied to a Living and Learning Community. Returning students move into Aldrich Hall, Browning Hall, Burnside Hall, Coddington Hall, Dorr Hall, Eddy Hall, Ellery Hall, Hopkins Hall, Hutchinson Hall, Merrow Hall, Peck Hall, Tucker Hall and the TD Achievement House, while the apartment-style options at Brookside Hall, Garrahy Hall and Wiley Hall go fast. Whichever building you end up in, everything you need is already on campus. URI students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
A few Kingston-specific details worth knowing before you buy anything. Standard residence hall mattresses are 36" x 81", so twin XL sheets are the only ones that fit; the apartments in Garrahy Hall and Wiley Hall use full-size 54" x 81" beds instead, which trips people up every August. Housing and Residential Life installs bed rails and ladders on lofted and bunked beds, and personal bed loft kits are on the prohibited list, so don't buy one secondhand. Refrigerators have to be 4 cubic feet or less and microwaves 1000 watts or less. Air conditioners are not allowed, which is why fans move quickly here in September and again in May. Space heaters, halogen lamps, hot plates, toasters, grills, and non-surge-suppressed extension cords are all banned too.
Meeting up is the easy part. Trade in the open at the Memorial Student Union, outside the Robert L. Carothers Library and Learning Commons, near the Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center, by Butterfield Dining Hall, on The Quadrangle, or just inside the URI Campus Store — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
