College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. Every account is verified with a @pdx.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Vikings — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

PSU housing is a handful of towers and renovated historic buildings stitched into downtown, not a ring of dorms around a quad. First-year Vikings live on freshman floors in the studios at Ondine and Broadway, and Honors students can land in Stephen Epler. Second-year students who opt into the Second Year Experience take the studios and one-bedrooms at St. Helens, while transfer, continuing, and graduate students spread across Ondine, Broadway, Stephen Epler, and the one-bedroom apartments in Blumel. First-year students under 20 who live more than 25 miles away and carry 8 or more credits are required to live on campus for the full year, so every September a new class arrives needing to furnish a studio from scratch — and every June the class ahead of them is trying to unload the same things. Everything you need is already within a few blocks. PSU students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every term, usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms come with a bed, dresser, desk, and chair, and that furniture stays in the unit, so the list is mostly bedding, storage, and small appliances. Check the mattress before you buy sheets: Broadway, Ondine, and St. Helens use XL twin beds, while Blumel and Stephen Epler use standard twins. The residence halls have no air conditioning; residents may run a single portable unit with a window exhaust kit from June 15 to September 15, capped at 6,000 BTU and 11 amps, and window-mounted units are never allowed. Homemade lofts are out too — beds can only be raised on one commercially made riser per leg, with a guardrail. Fridges are capped at four cubic feet and microwaves at 900 watts, and toaster ovens, halogen lamps, and space heaters should stay home.

Handing something off is easy on a campus this compact. Meet inside Smith Memorial Student Union, outside the Branford P. Millar Library, at the Academic & Student Recreation Center, along the South Park Blocks, or by Viking Pavilion at the Peter W. Stott Center before a game — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
