College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for University of Portland in Portland, Oregon. Every account is verified with a @up.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Pilots — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

The Bluff is a live-on campus. All full-time undergraduates are required to live on campus during their first and second years at UP, which keeps a large share of the student body within a few minutes' walk of each other. First-year Pilots are placed in Corrado Hall, Kenna Hall, Mehling Hall, Shipstad Hall or Villa Maria Hall, and sophomores stay in that same traditional-hall system, with single rooms opening up in year two. Juniors, seniors and graduate students move up to Fields Hall and Schoenfeldt Hall for single rooms and six-person suites, Lund Family Hall for doubles and suites, or the apartment-style Haggerty Hall and Tyson Hall, where groups of friends share a full kitchen, private bedrooms and in-apartment laundry. With everyone living that close together, everything you need is already on campus. UP students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms come furnished but deliberately flexible. Beds, desks, dressers and wardrobes are movable in the renovated traditional halls, and beds may be bunked or lofted in halls including Corrado, Fields and Lund Family, so bed risers and loft-friendly under-bed storage move fast in August. Mattresses are extra-long twin, so buy Twin XL sheets rather than standard twin. Residence Life allows one small refrigerator and one microwave per room, which is why roommates coordinate ahead of time and why one of them always ends up selling a fridge in May. Window air conditioning units are not permitted, so fans are worth grabbing early. Skip anything with an open flame or an exposed coil, too: toasters, hot plates, air fryers, portable grills, space heaters, candles, incense and extension cords are all prohibited.

Handoffs are easy on a campus this compact. Meet a buyer at The Pilot House over coffee, outside Bauccio Commons at mealtime, in the Clark Library, by the Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center, or at the Chiles Center before a game. All of them are public, busy and a short walk from every residence hall: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
