Pitt's housing runs up and down a steep campus. Whether you're in Litchfield Towers — A, B, or C, the biggest complex on campus — on Schenley Quad in Brackenridge, Bruce, Holland, McCormick, or Amos, in Lothrop, Nordenberg, or Forbes Hall on lower campus, up the hill in Sutherland, Panther, or Irvis, or in apartments at Bouquet Gardens, Forbes-Craig, Oakwood, Centre Plaza, The Strand, or Residences on Bigelow, everything you need is already in Oakland. Pitt students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Students living off campus around South Oakland use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.
Meeting up when campus is vertical
Pitt's upper campus sits about 200 feet above lower campus, and anyone who's carried a mini fridge up Cardiac Hill knows why that matters. Pick a landmark you're both already passing: the William Pitt Union, Hillman Library, and the Cathedral of Learning cover lower campus, and the Petersen Events Center is the natural spot if one of you is up in Sutherland, Panther, or Irvis. The campus shuttle runs the hill if you need it. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off Craigslist.
Textbooks without the bookstore markup
Course materials for engineering, nursing, the health sciences, and business run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Panther who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.
The weeks that matter most
Move-in in August and move-out in April or May are when the marketplace is busiest.
