College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Every account is verified with a @pepperdine.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Waves, not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Almost every undergraduate here starts out on the same hillside. New students are required to live on campus with a meal plan for their first two academic years, so first- and second-year Waves fill the 19 single-gender Suite-Style Houses along the residential road and the newer Seaside Hall, while Rockwell Towers takes much of the rest of the sophomore class. Juniors and seniors move into apartment living: Lovernich Apartments, the D and E blocks of George Page Apartments, Drescher W Block, and the Drescher Campus Apartments up the hill. Space up there is limited, which is exactly why furniture and dorm gear change hands so fast. Pepperdine students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Check the rules before you spend. Every bed on campus is an extra-long twin, so XL sheets are the only ones that will fit, and each resident is issued a bed, a desk with chair, a desk pedestal, and stackable drawers. Air conditioning is the big one: the suite-style houses, Seaside, Rockwell Towers, Lovernich, and George Page D and E blocks are not air-conditioned, Drescher W Block is the lone exception, and window or portable AC units are banned outright, so fans move quickly in August and again in May. Suite residents get a Microchill fridge, freezer, and microwave unit and may add one mini fridge of three cubic feet or less; personal microwaves are barred in the suites, while apartment residents may keep one of 700 watts or less. The dark wood beds raise themselves through nine height settings, from 8 to 32 inches of clearance, using a rubber mallet borrowed from your RA, and Housing keeps a limited number of lofting kits with safety guardrails, so buy storage bins sized for the space under a raised bed. Wall hangings go up with small tack nails only, no TV mounts or double-sided tape.

Meet somewhere busy and central. Payson Library, the Tyler Campus Center, Waves Cafe, Mullin Town Square, Joslyn Plaza, and Firestone Fieldhouse all stay trafficked between classes and sit within an easy walk of housing. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
