College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Every account is verified with a @upenn.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Quakers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Penn's residential system is thirteen College Houses holding roughly 5,500 undergraduates, and every undergraduate lives in one for at least two years. That two-year live-on stretch is exactly why so much furniture and gear changes hands here. The historic Quad — Fisher Hassenfeld College House, Riepe College House, and Ware College House — reopens together in fall 2026 after a multiphase renovation, welcoming about 1,400 first-years back. The rest of the system spans Hill College House, Lauder College House, Gregory College House, Kings Court English College House, W.E.B. Du Bois College House, Gutmann College House, and Stouffer College House, while the high rises — Harnwell College House, Harrison College House, and Rodin College House — run heavily to apartment-style singles, doubles, triples, and quads with their own living rooms and kitchens. Penn also puts The Radian — a Penn-affiliated apartment building rather than one of the thirteen College Houses — in the same 2026-27 room selection inventory, so upperclassmen can pick an apartment there alongside the high rises. Whatever you need is already on campus. Penn students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms come furnished: bed frame and mattress, dresser, desk with a drawer unit, chair, and bookcase, with sofas, dining tables, and armchairs in the apartment-style units. Every mattress across the College Houses takes Twin XL sheets (39 by 80 inches), so don't buy standard twin bedding. Microfridges are capped at 4.5 cubic feet — some houses include one and others don't, so used fridges move fast in August. Window air conditioners are prohibited, and so are halogen lamps, extension cords and multi-plug converters, candles and incense, hoverboards and e-mobility devices, LED strip lights, and adhesive command hooks. Surge protectors, removable adhesives, and stackable storage are worth buying secondhand.

Meet up somewhere busy and central. Houston Hall, the oldest operating student union in the country, works for almost anything; so do the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center, College Green, a bench along Locust Walk, or the lobby of the Pottruck Health & Fitness Center. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
