Buying & selling at Northwestern State
Campus details for Northwestern State students.
College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Northwestern State University of Louisiana in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Every account is verified with a @nsula.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Demons — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Campus housing at Northwestern State is small enough to know by name. Nearly everyone lands in one of three communities: University Place, the gated apartment-style complex that houses more than 700 students; University Columns on Tarlton Drive, with studio, two-bedroom and four-bedroom apartments for another 500-plus; and Varnado Hall, the residential college built around the Creative and Performing Arts program, where close to 200 students live alongside studio and rehearsal space. University of Louisiana System policy requires all unmarried, full-time undergraduates to live on campus unless they qualify for an exemption, so those three buildings turn over every semester and everything you need is already on campus. Northwestern State students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Rooms and apartments come furnished and utilities are included (water, sewer, trash and electricity), so what actually changes hands here is everything the lease doesn't cover: shelving, rugs, seating, kitchen gear, and small appliances for the en-suite apartments at Columns and University Place. Know the rules before you list. Alcohol and all tobacco products, including vapes and e-cigarette devices, are prohibited across the residential communities, pets are not allowed at all unless they're an approved service or support animal, and routers are specifically banned in Varnado Hall, so a used Wi-Fi router is not a sellable item on this campus. Laundry runs $1.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry, which is why drying racks and bulk detergent move fast. Every on-campus resident except seniors and graduate students has to buy a meal plan, and freshmen are placed on the Unlimited Plan, so first-years usually need less kitchen gear than they expect.
Meet in the open and stay on campus. The Friedman Student Union is the obvious handoff point between classes, and the Eugene P. Watson Memorial Library, the Dr. Randall J. Webb Wellness, Recreation and Activity Center, and the lot around Prather Coliseum, where housing check-in runs every August, all stay busy and well lit. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
