College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Every account is verified with a @northwestern.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Wildcats — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Where Wildcats buy and sell

Northwestern housing is unusually spread out — big halls, small houses, and residential colleges all mixed together. Whether you're in Allison, Bobb-McCulloch, Elder, Foster-Walker, Kemper, Schapiro, Shepard, or Willard, in a residential college like Ayers, Chapin, East or West Fairchild, Hobart, Slivka, or the Mid-Quads, or in one of the smaller houses along Emerson, Sheridan, Orrington, and Hinman, everything you need is already within a few blocks. Northwestern students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every quarter — usually for a fraction of retail. Students living off campus in Evanston use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.

Meeting up on campus

Handoffs happen at landmarks everybody already knows. Norris University Center, the University Library, and Henry Crown Sports Pavilion are all easy meeting points between classes, and campus is narrow enough that almost everything is a walk along Sheridan. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no taking the Purple Line to meet someone off Craigslist.

Textbooks without the bookstore markup

Course materials for engineering, journalism, economics, and the sciences run into the hundreds of dollars, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Wildcat who took the class last quarter beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.

The quarters that matter most

Northwestern runs on quarters, so the turnover rhythm is its own thing. September move-in and June move-out are the big ones, and most undergraduate halls close for winter break — which means a second clearing-out every December for anyone not in continuous housing. If you're selling, post before the rush. If you're buying, that's when the good stuff appears and disappears the same day.
