Buying & selling at Northern Iowa

Campus details for Northern Iowa students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Every account is verified with a @uni.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Panthers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

UNI housing splits neatly between the two ends of campus. New students land in traditional halls like Bender Hall, Hagemann Hall, Rider Hall, Noehren Hall and Dancer Hall, each connected by skywalk to a dining center, while Lawther Hall — the oldest hall on campus, built in 1940 and updated in 2017 — mixes traditional rooms with suite-style ones. Returning students who want more space have Shull Hall's super singles plus the apartments: Jennings Court Apartments, Panther Village, Roth Apartments and Trailside Apartments, which UNI acquired in 2025. The point is that everything you need is already on campus. Northern Iowa students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

What the room already gives you decides what you actually have to buy. Housing rates cover furniture, utilities and internet, so the big pieces are handled — though Trailside is priced two ways, furnished and unfurnished, so check which one you signed for before you start shopping. Bender and Dancer both state that air conditioners cannot be installed for safety reasons, which is why fans and small comfort items move fast in August, while Panther Village is air conditioned year-round. Shull rooms come with the bed set at captain's height and built-in storage, and lofts are listed among that hall's amenities. Meal plans are required in the residence halls but optional in Jennings Court, Panther Village and Roth, where apartments have full kitchens, so cookware, dish sets and small appliances are worth watching for.

When it is time to hand something over, meet somewhere with people around. Maucker Union is the obvious first pick, and Rod Library is easy for books and small electronics. For bigger loads, the Piazza Dining Center and the Redeker Center on south campus and the Rialto Dining Center on north campus put you within a few steps of the residence halls. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
