College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. Every account is verified with a @bears.unco.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Bears — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Most first-year students are required to live on campus for their first two semesters, which keeps the halls busy from August through May. West Campus draws the biggest first-year crowd: Harrison Hall is home to more than 500 first-year Bears, and Turner Hall stacks single-bedroom suites thirteen stories up. Suite-style North Hall, South Hall, and Hansen-Willis Hall hold most of the Living and Learning Communities, while the smaller historic halls of the Mesa Neighborhood and Central Campus — Belford Hall, Bond Hall, Brown Hall, Dickeson Hall, Luján Hall, and Wiebking Hall — run from a few dozen residents to a hundred. Returning, transfer, and graduate students spread into Lawrenson Hall, the university-owned Berkenkotter House and Trotter House, and the Arlington Park Apartments. Between all of them, everything you need is already on campus. Northern Colorado students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Know the rules before you buy somebody's old setup. Rooms come furnished with an adjustable-height bed and dual-firmness mattress, a desk and two-position chair, clothes storage, and window coverings, and the halls are air conditioned — personal air conditioners are prohibited, so don't buy one. Hall beds are twin regular rather than twin XL, which trips up a lot of shoppers: get standard twin sheets unless you're 6'4" or taller and have requested an XL mattress. Arlington Park is the exception, with full XL beds. Lofts and bed risers of every kind, cinder blocks and milk crates included, are banned, but the beds adjust in height and can be bunked using pins from the community desk. Compact refrigerators cap out at 6 cubic feet and 3 amps, microwaves at 2 cubic feet and 1,250 watts, and the Residence Hall Association rents combined MicroFridge units.
Meeting up is simple here. The University Center is the busiest handoff spot on campus, Michener Library suits quieter trades, and Tobey-Kendel Dining Hall, Holmes Dining Hall, and the Campus Recreation Center are all packed at predictable hours. Trade in daylight, in public, with people who actually go to your school — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
