College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Every account is verified with a @und.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Fighting Hawks — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
UND requires all first-year students to live in a residence hall for their first full academic year, which means the halls fill and empty on the same schedule every August and May. New students land in Smith Hall and Johnstone Hall, the connected pair along the English Coulee, or in the suite-style buildings — Noren Hall and Selke Hall, home to most of the living learning communities, plus the newer Brannon Hall, McVey Hall and West Hall, tied together by the Landing Zone tunnel to dining. Swanson Hall is currently offered to returning students only, while University Place, with furnished apartment-style units, is currently offered to new students only. With that much turnover, everything you need is already on campus. UND students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Check what your room already has before you spend anything. Every residence hall room comes with an extra-long twin mattress at 36" x 80", a desk and chair, a dresser or built-in wardrobe, window coverings and a wastebasket, so buy extra-long twin sheets rather than standard twin. The beds are oak frames that adjust to loft height and can be bunked, and the railing and ladder come from the hall office, so there is no loft kit to buy. Refrigerators are fine up to 5.0 cubic feet if UL listed, but personal microwaves are not allowed in rooms — there are microwaves on every floor, and only the approved MicroFridge unit is permitted. Window and portable air conditioners, space heaters and extension cords are banned in hall rooms. Noren, Selke, Swanson and University Place are described as air conditioned; the other halls do not advertise it, which is why a good box fan is a useful August purchase.
Meet in the open where people already are. The Memorial Union is the obvious spot, and the Chester Fritz Library, the front desk at the UND Wellness Center and the entrance to the Wilkerson Dining Center all work during busy hours. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
