College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama. Every account is verified with a @una.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Lions — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

First-time, full-time freshmen under the age of 20 are required to live in the residence halls for their first academic year, so a lot of Lions start out in the community-style buildings — Rice Hall, Rivers Hall, and Lafayette Hall — or in the hotel-style rooms at Mattielou Hall and Olive Hall. Suite and cluster living is spread across Hawthorne Hall, which is exclusive to upperclassmen, Covington Hall, and the women's halls Appleby East and Appleby West, where UNA's Panhellenic sororities occupy the upper floors. Students who want a kitchen of their own move into Twin Oaks, Lion's Gate, Cedar Arms, Gilbert Court, Grandview, Noble's Crossing, or Cypress Flats. Between the halls, the apartments, and the university center, everything you need is already on campus. North Alabama students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Measure before you buy bedding. UNA beds are extra-long singles running about 84 to 85 1/2 inches long and 38 inches wide, so they are both longer and wider than the Twin XL sheets stacked in most back-to-school aisles. Rice and Lafayette use loft-style frames; Covington, Appleby, and Mattielou sit at standard height. Every hall is air conditioned, and the suites in Hawthorne and Appleby have individual thermostats. Rooms already include a desk and chair, a dresser, and closet space, which is why storage, seating, and lighting are the smart secondhand buys. Housing caps refrigerators at 4.3 cubic feet and microwaves at 700 watts, and Keurig-style coffee makers are fine. Extension cords, space heaters, halogen lamps, candles, grills, and bicycles are not permitted in rooms, and air fryers and rice cookers may be stored but only used in the communal kitchens — so check the list before you buy someone's old appliance.

When it's time to hand something off, pick somewhere busy and well lit. The Guillot University Center is the natural first stop, and Collier Library and Information Services, Harrison Plaza, the Wendell W. Gunn University Commons, and the George H. Carroll Lion Habitat all work between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
