College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire. Every account is verified with a @unh.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Wildcats — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
UNH housing spreads across the Durham campus, and the marketplace follows it. First-year students land in halls like Williamson Hall, Lord Hall, McLaughlin Hall, Stoke Hall, and Christensen Hall, while the Upper and Lower Quads hold Devine Hall, Hitchcock Hall, Randall Hall, Engelhardt Hall, Gibbs Hall, and Hunter Hall. Sophomores fill the suites in Adams Tower West, and Alexander Hall, Congreve Hall, Fairchild Hall, Haaland Hall, Handler Hall, Hetzel Hall, Hubbard Hall, Jessie Doe Hall, Mills Hall, Peterson Hall, Sawyer Hall, and Scott Hall round out the rest. Upperclass students move out to Woodside Apartments and The Gables Apartments. Because new full-time undergraduates under 21 are required to live on campus for four semesters, there's a steady two-year cycle of students furnishing a room and then unloading it — everything you need is already on campus. UNH students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.
Know the rules before you buy. Every bedroom comes furnished with a Twin XL bed frame and mattress, a desk and desk chair, a dresser, and closet space for each resident, so buy XL twin sheets and skip the standard twin sets. Free-standing lofts are allowed as long as the top of the loft mattress sits at least 30 inches below the ceiling and safety rails are used. Refrigerators are capped at 4.5 cubic feet, microwaves at 800 watts of power output, and toaster ovens, hot plates, halogen lamps, and candles are all prohibited. Most halls are not air-conditioned — Peterson Hall is one of the exceptions — so fans move fast in August and again in May.
Meet up somewhere busy and central. The Memorial Union Building is the obvious first choice, but Dimond Library, Holloway Commons, the Hamel Recreation Center, and the lawn outside Thompson Hall all work just as well in daylight with people around. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
