Nine residence halls make up on-campus living here. First-year students land in Nye Hall, Juniper Hall, Manzanita Hall, Argenta Hall, Great Basin Hall, Peavine Hall, Sierra Hall, or the living-learning community in Nevada LLC Hall, while sophomores and above can move into the apartment-style rooms at Canada Hall. Whichever building you end up in, everything you need is already on campus. Nevada students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Know the rules before you buy. Residence hall rooms already come furnished with a bed and mattress, a desk and chair, a chest of drawers, and closet or wardrobe space, and every hall has free laundry, so skip the coin jar. Beds are 80 inches long, which means extra-long twin sheets, not standard twin. Residential Life no longer supports lofting — the old Peavine loft kits are gone, homemade lofts are prohibited, and bed risers are on the banned list — but frames adjust to four heights and can be bunked using pins from your building's front desk. You're allowed one refrigerator under five cubic feet and one microwave rated 1,000 watts or less per room. Window and portable air conditioning units are not permitted because of building electrical capacity, and hot plates, toasters, toaster ovens, candles, incense, and waterbeds are all out.
When it's time to hand something off, meet somewhere busy and public. The Joe Crowley Student Union food court is the obvious one, and the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center lobby, the E. L. Wiegand Fitness Center entrance, Pack Place, and The Quad all work just as well. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
