College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. Every account is verified with a @student.montana.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Bobcats — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

First-time freshmen are required to live on campus in the residence halls and carry a meal plan, which keeps the halls full and the marketplace moving all year. On the east side of campus you'll find Hapner Hall, Langford Hall, Hannon Hall, Johnstone Center, and the Quads. West campus holds Roskie Hall, North Hedges Hall, South Hedges Hall, Yellowstone Hall, Hyalite Hall, the Headwaters Complex (Gallatin, Jefferson, and Madison Halls), and the Julia Martin Apartments. Between move-in week and finals, everything you need is already on campus. Montana State students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Every room already comes with a bed, a desk, a desk chair, and storage space for each student, so what you're really shopping for is everything else. Most halls have loftable extra-long twin beds, which is why lofting kits and XL bedding move so fast here. Roskie's beds are regular twin but still loftable, and the Quads have regular twins that cannot be lofted at all, though bed risers are allowed there. Hannon and Hapner have sinks in the rooms, Johnstone is carpeted with sinks in some wings, and the Headwaters suites add a kitchenette and a shared common area. University Student Housing partners with Collegiate Concepts to rent MicroFridges if you'd rather not buy one outright, and the residence hall handbook bans personal air conditioners, hot plates, air fryers, pressure cookers, halogen and lava lamps, and 3D printers — worth checking that list before you pay for someone's used appliance.

Meeting up is easy when campus is this walkable. The Strand Union Building is the obvious first choice, with the MSU Bookstore right inside it. The MSU Library on Centennial Mall works well for quieter handoffs, and Miller Dining Commons in the Hedges complex or the Rendezvous Dining Pavilion on the west side are busy and well lit around mealtimes. Trade in daylight, in public, with people who actually go to your school — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
