MVSU keeps its residential community small and close, with eight residence halls on the Itta Bena campus. First-year students generally land in Edna Horton Hall or College Hall I, the two halls the university renovated and reopened with roughly 460 beds between them. Returning and upperclass students fill James Hall, Stewart Hall, McTeer Hall, Magnolia Hall, and New Women Hall, while Valley Annex houses junior and senior residents and is the one building whose rooms are furnished differently from the rest. Because campus is compact, everything you need is already within a short walk. Valley students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
A standard MVSU room comes with two twin beds, two desks, two chairs, two closets, and dressers, and the university lists mattresses as twin size at 36 inches by 80 inches, so measure before you buy sheets secondhand. Housing includes electricity, cable, and internet with no separate hookup fees, and each residence hall has a computer lab. Residential Life bans a long list of cooking gear outright: George Foreman grills, toasters, toaster ovens, crock pots, sandwich makers, hot plates, and fryers of any kind, plus candles, incense, and decorative alcohol bottles. All halls are smoke free and no pets are allowed. Single rooms are not assigned because of space limits, so plan on a roommate and split what you can.
When it's time to hand something off, meet somewhere busy and public. The James H. White Library, the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex, the plaza outside the William W. Sutton Administration Building, and the lots around Rice-Totten Stadium at Chuck Prophet Field are all easy to find and easy to describe to a buyer. Trade in daylight, bring a friend if you'd rather, and keep it on campus — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
